For Jen

A reader left a really great question…

I love your fashion blogs! You make getting dressed in the morning sound fun and have inspired me! (especially during the work week) I’d love to hear some of your tips on fashion with a budget. Can you style yourself with just a hundred dollars or so? Or what are the must have items that one should invest in?

I LOVE so many aspects to this comment. Thank you, Jen! You have inspired me.

Well, first thing’s first…I love the idea of an outfit on a budget, BUT what I love more is mixing new items with ones that already exist in your closet. It can bring such a life to an older item. So, don’t give up on that old sweater yet.

NOW…I definitely jumped on your challenge. How much leeway do I get with “or so“? Below you will find an outfit that is under 100 Euro ;) . Unfortunately, we are no longer traveling in Italy. So this one comes to $147. THOUGH…without the bag, we are down to $98. SO…perhaps we can do the rest of the outfit with a bag that you already own…

What I love about this look is that you are layering a patterned dress with a solid cardigan sweater. The solid color here is toning down the amount of pattern you are seeing. THIS WAY when you do see pattern it makes a POP. Don’t worry, if you get hot, that is when you take off the later and look absolutely stunning. This dress is FANTASTIC because you can wear it alone in warmer seasons OR layer it when Fall is around.

Try pairing it with a ballet flat and a large leather bag for a cute work look that is also EXTREMELY APPROPRIATE for brunch and weekend outings.

  1. Love it! You conquered this challenge very quickly. I was hoping you would look for some classic items that may be lying around in the closet! Also, great tip about the shoes ang bag. 🙂
